A Review of Ed2010.com

About.com Rating 3.5

From , former About.com Guide

Ed2010.com was founded by a former editorial assistant in 1998. Chandra Czape Turner was, at that time, trying to climb the editorial ladder in the magazine world. Turner went on to become executive editor at CosmoGirl!. But her site -- Ed2010.com was named for the date Turner and her friends wanted to be running the magazine industry -- remains a great resource for those looking to break into the media business, especially magazines.

Job Listings

Ed2010.com is a great site for those interested in magazine jobs. There are both print and online jobs listed here and, while there are a few newspaper jobs posted, the focus is really on magazines. There also tend to be more editorial openings listed on Ed2010.com.

Networking Tips

Aside from job listings, Ed2010.com offers various networking opportunities. The site features listings of media events in a number of cities and it’s a good place to start if you’re looking to meet other junior staffers to potentially befriend. Bottom line: the site’s a great place to start networking.

Internship Listings

Ed2010.com also has quite a few internships posted. Since the site is geared to people just starting out, there are a number of unpaid (and a few paid) opportunities on here. There are also some freelance gigs listed here, which can be a good way to get clips.

The Pros and Cons of the "Whisper Job"

Ed2010.com’s job listings are called “whisper jobs” because some of them aren’t publicly posted. The idea is that an insider heard about a job and then told someone at the site. That said, not all of the jobs posted on here are actually whispers. Some are, but some you will find posted on public job boards.
