What Is a Consumer Publication?

Definition: A consumer publication is a publication intended for the general reading public (i.e. not a trade). Magazines that people read for pleasure are consumer magazines, whereas people read trade publications to get more information about the industry they work in.

Variety, for example, is a trade publication about the entertainment industry while Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide are consumer publications about entertainment.
