What Is Arts Journalism?

From Rachel Deahl, for About.com

Definition: Arts journalism, in the newspaper world, often refers to the coverage of arts and culture. Criticism often falls under the umbrella of arts journalism but, to an extent, the term is not as prevalent as it once was.

It should also be noted that the arts section of a newspaper is sometimes called the culture section. That said, many papers use their own terms. The New York Times, for example, has a Saturday section called “Arts” but arts stories also appear in other sections. “Sunday Styles,” a Sunday section of the paper, also runs arts-type stories. In other words, the term is malleable.

Examples: Movie reviews are considered an example of arts journalism.
