Guide to Atlanta Media Jobs

Atlanta is a bustling, growing Southern city. It’s also the home of Ted Turner’s media empire. For this reason the Atlanta media scene is a thriving one. And, since this town is less expensive to live in than either New York or L.A., you might want to take some time to look into Atlanta media jobs.

  • CNN -- Ted Turner’s 24-hour news channel was the first of its kind. CNN, aka the Cable News Network, was founded in 1980 and is now owned by Time Warner. Although Time Warner is based in New York City, CNN does a good chunk of its broadcasting from its home base in Atlanta. And, as a major network, there are various news shows on the network hiring reporters and bookers and other people. A good place to look for jobs at CNN, and shows affiliated with the network, is at Time Warner’s corporate job board. (CNN is actually under the Turner network banner, which also has TBS, TNT and other properties.)
  • Atlanta Journal-Constitution -- The major daily paper of the region, the AJC was first published in 1868. In 1982 the Atlanta Constitution merged with the Atlanta Journal to produce the staff that now helms the paper. The paper is owned by the newspaper chain, Cox.
  • Atlanta -- The monthly lifestyle magazine of the city, Atlanta does features and investigative pieces and, like many city magazines, features more long-form journalism than the local daily papers. The magazine is similar to other regionals like Los Angeles, Boston and New York.
  • Creative Loafing -- This alternative weekly chain owns papers in DC, Tampa Bay and other areas. The Atlanta outpost of Creative Loafing is one of the biggest papers the chainlet owns.
  • The Weather Channel – TWC has its national headquarters in Atlanta. It also employs more than just meteorologists. (TWC has a major online presence and might be interesting for those looking for either online or TV experience.)
