From Rachel Deahl, Former About.com Guide to Media Careers

The Holiday Lull

Friday December 26, 2008
The week of Christmas and New Year's are, generally speaking, the slowest corporate times of the year. This week and next week companies are closed -- especially media companies -- and people are generally off on vacation.

Given this fact, it's a really slow time for job postings. Fewer jobs are being posted and hiring managers might not be in the office or, if they are, dealing with filling positions. Therefore, now is a good time to invest your time in interview preparation as opposed to finding actual jobs. (You might want to start checking the job boards again after the new year.)
